  • How to judge the ultimate temperature resistance of motor bearings

    Recently, a customer asked "how high is the ultimate temperature resistance of general motor bearings"? In fact, this problem needs to be analyzed from four aspects, namely the bearing body, cage, seals and grease. Because of it is different temperature limits for the four components. Let us make up for you to briefly talk about it.


    First, the body of bearings

    Bearing body is bearing inner ring, outer ring and rolling body. These parts are usually made of bearing steel and need to go through the corresponding heat treatment in the production process of motor bearings. Because of its size and accuracy will be relatively stable for the motor bearing in this temperature range. However, the size and stability of bearing parts may change if higher than this temperature. And the internal metal structure of the bearing will also change at the same time, which leads to corresponding changes in the hardness of the bearing.       But different manufacturers have certain differences in the default stable temperature of heat treatment for different types of motor bearings.It is recommended to consult corresponding manufacturers for detailed limits.


    Second, the cages of bearings

    The most commonly used cage materials for motor bearings are steel, copper (mainly brass) and nylon. Steel and brass material temperature limits do not need to be considered separately of the three materials, and can be almost equal to the temperature limits of the ring. The default temperature range for nylon cages is -30℃~120℃. It is necessary to change the motor bearing selection or other calculations to comprehensively consider its availability if the temperature is higher than this environment for a long time.


    Third, the seals of bearings

    Usually the seals of sealed bearings are more often used when there are no special requirements. The temperature range of seals made of this material is also between -30℃ and 120℃. Fluorine rubber seals can withstand temperature up to 180℃, but it is very expensive. (Please consult the corresponding manufacturer for the temperature limit of seals of other materials.)


    Fourth, the grease

    The viscosity of grease will be affected if the temperature of motor bearing rises. And it is necessary to carry out the corresponding check the grease after the viscosity change can meet the application condition. Generally, the temperature range of grease in sealed bearings is about -30℃~120℃. Technicians can choose to use low temperature grease, high temperature grease, wide temperature grease and so on according to working conditions.

  • Causes of motor bearing rust

    The deep groove ball bearing often appears poor operation and increased noise used by the motor. It is found that the bearing has rusted under the microscope after removing the seals, cleaning and drying.


    We will discuss the causes of motor bearing rust today:


    (1) It will often appear, when the motor is placed in the warehouse where the humidity is relatively large and the temperature is relatively high in one week.

    (2) Block rust often appears on the surface layer near the motor rotor side, and black spot-like rust often appears on the outer surface layer of bearings with serious conditions.

    (3) Oil color changes, while there is a pungent paint odor.

    (4) Rust spots loose and porous, very easy to fall off automatically for very serious cases.


    This rusting phenomenon of motor bearings is very similar to the "lacquer rust" reported abroad.


    The rust occurs frequently in sealed ball bearings for medium and small motors according to market feedback. Therefore, it is necessary to find out the root cause and take certain effective measures to prevent it.


    Principle and characteristics of bearing paint rust:


    Lacquer rust is affected by internal and external overall factors: motor stator insulation paint volatilized acid molecules and moisture together by grease absorption reaction caused.   This phenomenon is related to the type of insulating paint, the drying process of the stator and the storage environment of the motor.


    The use of amino or phenolic insulating paint, paint in the hardening process of molecular chain instability will have low molecular substances escape:  such as formaldehyde, in the temperature and humidity of the appropriate time, formaldehyde and water molecules in the weather reaction to produce formic acid, formic acid will make grease hydrolysis, corrosion bearing paint rust.


    Paint rust mainly often appears in enclosed motor or enclosed packaging placed motor.  This is mainly closed motor paint gas is not easy to escape the reason.  The characteristics of paint rust are as follows:  


    Usually in the high temperature and high humidity of southern areas and high humidity of coastal areas.  In the muggy season, most of the motors are placed within 1 ~ 3 months after production, and some serious motors are placed 2-3 weeks after painting rust phenomenon;  Paint rust is generally manifested as normal noise during motor assembly test, and noise is unqualified after being placed for a period of time or sent to the customer for detection;  Lacquer rust phenomenon mostly appears in the case of solvent-based insulating paint, sometimes the use of solvent-free paint will also appear (insufficient drying time or drying temperature).
